Notice on Issuing the National Standard of
the Code for Acceptance of Construction Quality of Building Foundation
J.B. [2002] NO. 79
Pursuant to the Notice on the Printing and Distribution of the Preparation and
Modification Plans of 1997's Engineering Construction Standards (J.B. [1997]
NO.108), this Code for Acceptance of Construction Quality of Building Foundation
is rectified jointly by the Construction and Management Commission of Shanghai
Municipality and other relevant departments. Our ministry has arranged for the
examination by related departments of the Code and hereby approved it as a
national standard with the serial number of GB 5022-2002 and to be effective on
May 1, 2002. The 4.1.5, 4.1.6, 5.1.3, 5.1.4, 5.1.5, 7.1.3 and 7.1.7 articles hereof are
compulsory and must be strictly and exactly performed. Upon the execution of this
Code, any related contents with respect of "earthworks" stipulated in the previously
formulated Specifications for Construction and Acceptance of Ground and
Foundations GBJ 202-83 and Specifications for Construction and Acceptance of
Earthworks and Explosion Engineering GBJ 201-83 shall be abolished and
terminated immediately.
This Code shall be governed by the Ministry of Construction of the PEOPLE’S
REPUBLIC OF CHINA, and interpreted by the Ministry with respect of the
compulsory articles hereof and by Shanghai Foundation Engineering Company with
respect of the technical details hereof, and published and distributed by Chinese
Planning Press under the organization of the standard quota institute of the Ministry
of Construction of the PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA.

Foreword
This Code is based on the requirements of the Ministry of Construction “Circular on
the issuance of < 1997 construction standard’s drafting and revising plan>” [JB
(1997) No. 108]. And it is revised on GBJ 202-83 “Specifications for Construction
and Acceptance of Ground and Foundations” and drafted by Shanghai Foundation
Engineering Company of Shanghai Construction Group Corporation, in conjunction
with the relevant organizations.
In the revision process, the specification drafting team have carried out a special
study; performed more-extensive survey and research; summarized the multi-years
experience of design and construction of foundation and foundation engineering;
appropriately considered the newly matured and applied technology; accorded to the
approach of "Separate the test and evaluation; strengthen the acceptance; enhance
the means and process control"; and performed comprehensive modifications, so as
to formulate the first draft of this Code. Furthermore, it has widely solicited the
views and opinions, in various ways, from the relevant organizations of the country;
the main issues were repeatedly modified, so as the approval-version is finalized.
The main contents of this Code are divided into 8 chapters, including general rules,
terms, basic regulations, foundation, pile foundation, earthwork, foundation pit, and
quality acceptance and so on. In which, the earthwork is modified from the
earthwork contents of previous GBJ 201-83 " Specifications for Construction and
Acceptance of Earthworks and Explosion Works"; the foundation pit is the newly
added contents to adapt to the new situation.
This Code may be required in the future for local-revision. The relevant
local-revision information and provisions contents will be published in the magazine
"Engineering Construction Standardization".
This provisions marked in bold in this Code are mandatory. They must be strictly
enforced.
