This Standard is equivalent to IEC 60950: 1999 Safety of information technology equipment
Edition 3.
This is the second revision of GB 4943. GB 4943-1990 is equivalent to IEC 950-1986; GB
4943-1995 is equivalent to IEC 950-1991 Ed. 2. This Standard is equivalent to IEC 60950 Ed. 3.
Section 6 “connection to telecommunication network” is added in Edition 2. IEC 60950 Edition 3
has the following modification: the security requirement for connection to telecommunication
network” is incorporated in the topics of this Standard, and the content of this Standard is also
re-arranged by combining related topics for easy use. Technical update is also made according to
the issues proposed by Certification Bodies.
This Standard is intended to provide guideline for the design, manufacturing and use of
information technology products in China and allow manufacturers to implement product safety
certification for safety compliance.
This specification is in lieu of GB 4943-1995 since its enforcement.
Annex A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, U, and V are normative annexes.
Annex Q, R, S, T, W and X are informative annex.

1 General
1.1 Scope
1.1.1 Equipment covered by this Standard
This Standard is applicable to mains-powered or battery-powered information technology
equipment, including electrical business equipment and associated equipment, with a RATED
VOLTAGE not exceeding 600 V.
This Standard is also applicable to such information technology equipment:
− designed for use as telecommunication terminal equipment and TELECOMMUNICATION
NETWORK infrastructure equipment, regardless of the source of power;
− designed to use the AC MAINS SUPPLY as a communication transmission medium (see
Clause 6, Note 4).
This Standard specifies requirements intended to reduce risks of fire, electric shock or injury
for the OPERATOR and layman who may come into contact with the equipment and, where
specifically stated, for a SERVICE PERSON.
This Standard is intended to reduce such risks with respect to installed equipment, whether it
consists of a system of interconnected units or independent units, subject to installing,
operating and maintaining the equipment in the manner prescribed by the manufacturer.
