Foreword
This Standard replaces the part of glass products in contact with food of GB 19778-
2005, Packaging Glass Containers – Release of Lead, Cadmium, Arsenic and
Antimony – Permissible Limits.
Compared with GB 19778-2005, the main changes of this Standard are as follows.
-- it changes the name of the standard into “National Food Safety Standard – Glass
Products”;
-- it modifies Scope;
-- it modifies Terms and Definitions;
-- it increases Material Requirements;
-- it increases Sensory Requirements;
-- it modifies Physicochemical Indexes;
-- it increases requirements for cook ware and mouth margin;
-- it increases requirements for migration test; and
-- it increases requirements for designation of glass products.
National Food Safety Standard – Glass products
1 Scope
This Standard applies to glass products in contact with food.
2 Terms and Definitions
2.1 flat ware
the ware whose depth from the margin of itself, along the horizontal plane, to its inside
lowest horizontal plane, is less than or equal to 25 mm
2.2 storage vessel
the hollow ware whose volume is greater than or equal to 3 L
2.3 hollow ware
the ware whose depth from the mouth of itself, along the horizontal plane, to its inside
lowest horizontal plane, is greater than 25 mm
2.4 big hollow ware
the hollow ware whose volume is greater than or equal to 1.1 L and less than 3 L
2.5 small hollow ware (except cups)
the hollow ware whose volume is less than 1.1 L
2.6 cook ware
the ware which is used to heat and prepare food
2.7 margin
the marginal area within 20 mm measured from the edge of glass ware which is
externally decorated and in direct contact with human mouth
2.8 flash
leftover bits and pieces of mechanically or manually moulded products because of the
mismatch of mouth mould, blank mould and forming mould.
