This is Part 8 of GB 3836.
This Part was drafted in accordance with the rules in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Part serves as a replacement of GB 3836.8-2003 Electrical Apparatus for
Explosive Gas Atmospheres - Part 8: Type of Protection “n”.
In comparison with GB 3836.8-2003, the main changes are as follows:
---The title of the standard is changed;
---Table 1 is added, which explains the relationship with GB 3836.1;
---Definitions that have appeared in GB 3836.1-2010 are deleted;
---Type “n” positive pressure is deleted; all the requirements for positive pressure
are stipulated in GB 3836.5;
---The air gap spark assessment and test requirements for electric motors above
100 kW are added;
---The risk assessment table for electric motors above 1 kV or 100 kW is added;
---The requirements for power supply motors of frequency converters are modified;
---The reference standard of lamps and lanterns is added;
---It is added that cap-lights and hand-lights shall comply with the relevant
requirements of GB 3836.1-2010;
---Table 10 Requirements for Creepage Distance and Electrical Clearance of Low-
power Equipment is added;
---The requirements for the protection level of plugs and sockets are added;
---Cable clamping test is deleted;
---The adjustment of E40 / E39 lamp cap test screw-in and screw-out torque value
is reduced;
---The high-voltage pulse test of rectifier is deleted;
---The test and determination standards for lamp starters and triggers are modified;

In comparison with IEC 60079-15:2010, the technical differences and the causes for
the differences are as follows:
---The column which compares with the clauses of IEC 60079-0 Ed.6.0 (currently
being formulated) in Table 1 of IEC 60079-15:2010 is deleted;
---NOTE 1 of Scope “Where there were no requirements, indicated by “NR” or
there is a conflict between requirements, the later edition requirements take
precedence.” is deleted.
---Undated references in Normative References are modified into dated
references.
