Foreword
All technical content of this Part is mandatory.
GB 3836 "Explosive atmospheres" is divided into several parts:
- Part 1: Equipment - General Requirements;
- Part 2: Equipment Protection by Flameproof Enclosures “d”;
- Part 3: Equipment Protection by Increased Safety “e”;
- Part 4: Equipment Protection by Intrinsic Safety “i”;
- Part 5: Pressurized enclosures “p”;
- Part 6: Oil-immersion “o”;
- Part 7: Power filling “q”;
- Part 8: Type of protection “n”;
- Part 9: Encapsulation m;
- Part 11: Method of test for ascertainment of maximum experimental safe
gap;
- Part 12: Classification of mixtures of gases or vapours with air according to
their maximum experimental safe gaps and minimum igniting current;
- Part 13: Repair and overhaul for apparatus used in explosive gas
atmospheres;
- Part 14: Classification of hazardous areas;
- Part 15: Electrical installation in hazardous areas (other than mines);
- Part 16: Inspection and maintenance of electrical installation (other than
mines);
- Part 17: Construction and use of rooms or building protected by
pressurization;
- Part 18: Intrinsically safe system;
- Part 19: Fieldbus intrinsically safe concept (FISCO);
- Part 20: Equipment with equipment protection level (EPL) Ga.
This Part is Part 3 of the GB 3836 series. This Part is identical to IEC 60079-
7:2006 "Explosive atmospheres - Part 7: Equipment protection by increased
safety "e"" (English edition). This Part is technically fully consistent with IEC
60079-7:2006. Only some editorial changes have been made.
This Part replaces GB 3836.3-2000 "Electrical apparatus for explosive gas
atmospheres - Part 3: Increased safety e".
Compared with GB 3836.3-2000, the main changes in this Part are as follows:
- ADD 6 new terms;
- Modify the electrical connections;
- Modify the voltage classes and corresponding values and related notes in
the table of creepage distances and clearances;
- ADD the requirements for degree of protection provided by the enclosure
of apparatus group I equipped with drain holes or ventilation openings;
- ADD regulations on the degree of protection provided by enclosures with
intrinsically-safe circuits or parts;
- ADD requirements for assessing rotor construction which may generate air
gap sparking;
- ADD the requirements for windings of rotating electrical machines;
- ADD the relevant requirements for the shaft seals of rotating electrical
machines;
- ADD the limit temperature requirements for the stator winding terminals;
- ADD the assessment and test requirements for high-voltage machines;
- Modify the requirements for lampholders and lamp caps of luminaires.
Delete Annex A of the former standard and include its content into the text;
and, add relevant requirements;
- ADD the requirements for tubular fluorescent bi-pin lamps;
- ADD the provision that measuring instruments with moving coils are not
permitted;
- ADD requirements for primary and secondary batteries with a capacity
equal to or less than 25 Ah;
Explosive atmospheres -
Part 3: Equipment protection by increased safety "e"
1 Scope
This Part of GB 3836 specifies the requirements for the design, construction,
testing and marking of electrical apparatus with type of protection increased
safety "e" intended for use in explosive gas atmospheres. This Part applies to
electrical apparatus where the rated voltage does not exceed 11 kV r.m.s. a.c.
or d.c. Additional measures are applied to ensure that the apparatus does not
produce arcs, sparks, or excessive temperatures in normal operation or under
specified abnormal conditions.
This Part supplements and modifies the general requirements of GB 3836.1-
2010. Where a requirement of this Part conflicts with a requirement of GB
3836.1-2010, the requirement of this Part takes precedence.
Note: Increased safety "e" can provide Equipment Protection Levels (EPL) Mb or Gb. For
further information, see Annex I.
