Foreword
The full text of this Standard is mandatory.
This Standard shall be implemented from October 1, 2005. The transitional period is one year. That is, the products manufactured before October 1, 2005 and meeting the requirements of corresponding standards shall be allowed to sell until September 30, 2006.
This Standard was proposed by and shall be under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China.

Hygienic standard for marine algae and algae products
1??Scope
This Standard specifies the algae products?€? hygienic indicators, inspection methods, and hygienic requirements of food additives, production and processing, labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage.
This Standard applies to marine algae or the products that use marine algae as raw material, with or without accessories; and are made by corresponding processing technology.
This Standard does not apply to jelly and spirulina products that use marine algae as raw material.

9??Inspection??methods
9.1 Sensory indicators
TAKE samples. OBSERVE the color, shape and surface condition. SMELL the smells. The algae products for direct consumption shall be tasted.
9.2 Physical indicators
9.2.1 Moisture. DETERMINE according to the method specified in GB/T 5009.3. 9.2.2 Inorganic arsenic. DETERMINE according to the method specified in GB/T 5009.11 [replaced by corrigendum].
9.2.2 Inorganic arsenic. DETERMINE according to the second method (silver-salt method) of ?€?Determination of inorganic arsenic?€? in GB/T 5009.11.
9.2.3 Lead. DETERMINE according to the method specified in GB/T 5009.12. 9.2.4 Methylmercury. DETERMINE according to the method specified in GB/T 5009.17.
9.2.5 Polychlorinated biphenyl. DETERMINE according to the method specified in GB/T 5009.190.
9.3 Microbial indicators
INSPECT according to the method specified in GB/T 4781.20.

No. 1 amendment of GB 19643-2005 "Hygienic standard for marine algae
and algae products"
This amendment was approved in the No.9 file of National Standards Commission Agriculture Information [2007] by the National Standardization Administration Committee in February 8, 2007. And it shall be implemented since the day of approval.
Modifications contents of national standard GB 19643-2005 "Hygienic standard for marine algae and algae products" are as follows.
