3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions and those defined in GB 7956.1-2014 are
applicable to this document. For ease of use, some of the terms and definitions
in GB 7956.1-2014 are repeated below.
3.1 Compressed air foam system fire fighting vehicle
It refers to the fire fighting vehicle mainly equipped with a water tank and a foam
tank, and injecting foam for fire protection through the compressed air foam
system.
[Definition in Section 3.1.8 of GB 7956.1-2014]
3.2 Compressed air foam system; CAFS
It refers to the device that is mainly composed of a fire pump, a compressed air
system, a foam proportioning system, an injection device, a piping system, etc.,
and that is able to generate compressed air foam.
3.3 Foam proportioning system
It refers to the system that is composed of a foam proportioner, a foam pump,
a control device, a piping device and other components, and that is able to mix
water and foam concentrate in a certain proportion.
3.4 Class A foam
It refers to the foam mainly used for fighting Class A fires.
3.5 Dry foam
It refers to the Class A foam with a foam expansion ratio of not less than 10
times and a mixing ratio of not more than 1%, which is able to be stably attached
to a vertical wall within a specified period of time.
3.6 Wet foam
It refers to the Class A foam with a foam expansion ratio of less than 10 times,
a mixing ratio of not less than 0.2% and better flowability.
3.7 Nozzle for Class A foam
It refers to the fire-fighting nozzle with a nozzle diameter of not less than 19mm,
which is used for injecting Class A dry and wet foam.
injection of dry and wet foam, and shall ensure that at least two nozzles for
Class A foam are used at the same time.
4.4.1.1.2 When the compressed air foam system injects wet foam at the rated
outlet pressure, the flow rate of the mixture injected by a fire monitor shall not
be less than 8L/s, and the flow rate of the mixture at each injection outlet, except
for the fire monitor, shall not be less than 3L/s. When the compressed air foam
system injects dry foam at the rated outlet pressure, the flow rate of the mixture
at each injection outlet, except for the fire monitor, shall not be less than 1.5L/s.
4.4.1.1.3 The compressed air foam system shall not switch between dry state
and wet state and regulate the system’s outlet pressure by regulating the valve
opening at the distal end of the outlet.
4.4.1.1.4 The compressed air foam system shall be possessed of automatic
pressure balance function that is able to automatically control the difference
between the outlet pressure of the compressed air system and the pressure of
the fire pump within the range of 15% over the entire operating range.
4.4.1.1.5 The compressed air foam system shall be provided with a device for
releasing the residual pressure after the system has ceased to run. This device
shall be located in a convenient position for operation.
4.4.1.1.6 The compressed air foam system shall be possessed of cleaning
function that is able to automatically clean the foam proportioning system and
the pipelines, and shall prevent the residual fluid in the pipelines being cleaned
from flowing into the foam tank or water tank in the cleaning process. The
cleaning operation switch shall be located on the control panel.
4.4.1.1.7 The compressed air foam system shall have no leakage when
operating at the maximum allowable operating pressure and flow conditions.
4.4.1.1.8 The pipelines of the compressed air foam system shall be provided
with means for preventing water, compressed air and foam backflow.
4.4.1.1.9 The pipelines of the compressed air foam system shall be
distinguished by different colors. The compressed air pipelines shall be black.
The fire pump’s water inlet pipelines and the water transmission pipelines from
the water tank to the fire pump shall be G05 dark green specified in GB/T 3181.
The fire pump’s water outlet pipelines shall be R03 bright red. The liquid
transmission pipelines from the foam tank to the foam pump shall be Y08 dark
yellow.
4.4.1.2 Performance requirements
4.4.1.2.1 Power matching performance
4.4.2.1 At the rated outlet pressure, the rated flow rate of the compressed air
system shall not be less than 12 times the sum of the flow rates of the mixture
at the outlets during the injection of dry foam, and shall not be less than 6 tim...
