YBB60422012: Tests for Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion
YBB 60422012
YBB
NATIONAL STANDARD OF THE
PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA
Tests for Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion
Tests for Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion
This Method is applicable for determining the linear thermal expansion coefficient of
pharmaceutical glass containers with similar composition to standard glass.
This Method is to stack and burn the standard glass with a known linear thermal expansion
coefficient and the glass with a linear thermal expansion coefficient under measurement; and
draw it into a wire. Since the two types of glass have different linear thermal expansion
coefficients, the wire will be domed. According to the dome degree of the wire, the linear
thermal expansion coefficient of the glass to be tested can be measured.
Apparatus
blowtorch.
Micrometer and micrometer base with accuracy of 0.01mm.
The special clamp is made of steel strip with approximate dimensions of 200mm long, 20mm
wide and 1mm thick. To prevent scalding hands, two pieces of insulation are placed 100mm
from the front end. see Figure 1.
Figure 1 – Special Clamp
Ruler for measurement. It consists of a glass plate and a glass mirror each with a size of
250mm×300mm. There is graph paper on the mirror, and horizontal and vertical coordinate
lines are drawn. Cut off 3mm paper around two points 200mm apart horizontally and on both
sides of the vertical line to expose the mirror surface. The cut-off parts on both sides of the
vertical line are 60mm on the upper and lower parts. As shown in Figure 2.
