Light-Signaling Devices and Systems for Motor Vehicles and
Their Trailers
1 Scope
This Document specifies the same type determination, general requirements, light source
requirements, photometric characteristics requirements, chromaticity requirements, test
methods and inspection rules of light-signally devices and devices and systems for motor
vehicles and their trailers.
This Document applies to the design, manufacture and acceptance of light-signaling devices
and systems such as front position lamps, rear position lamps, direction-indicator lamps, stop
lamps, reversing lamps, end-outline marker lamps, parking lamps, daytime running lamps, rear-
registration plate illuminating devices, rear fog lamps, maneuvering lamps, side marker lamps,
and light-signaling projection units used in Categories-M, -N, and -O vehicles.
2 Normative References
The provisions in following documents become the essential provisions of this Document
through reference in this Document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates
indicated are applicable to this Document; for the undated documents, only the latest version
(including all the amendments) is applicable to this Document.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this Document, the terms and definitions given in GB 4785 and the
function by projecting symbols on the road surface.
4 Judgment of the Same Type
Devices that do not differ in the following main features are considered to be of the same type.
--- Manufacturer;
--- The number, type, lighting principle, and light source module structure of the used
replaceable or non-replaceable light sources;
--- The number and structure of main optical components (e.g., reflectors, photometric
mirrors, light guides, variable light intensity controllers, etc.).
5 General Requirements
5.1 Front/rear position lamps
5.1.1 When the front/rear position lamps and other functions form a mixed lamp, the two are lit
at the same time, the chromaticity shall comply with the chromaticity requirements of the
corresponding mixed function specified in GB 4785.
5.1.2 The front/rear position lamps that share the light source with other functions may be
designed to operate with an additional system for adjusting the light intensity. In this case, for
the rear position lamps that share the light source with the stop lamp, multiple light sources
shall be designed in parallel, or the function shall be equipped with a fault monitoring system.
5.1.3 The circuit connection of the Category A2 front position lamp shall comply with the
provisions of Appendix A.
5.2 Direction-indicator lamp
5.2.1 Classification
5.2.1.1 Front direction-indicator lamps are classified into Categories-1, -1a and -1b devices
according to their photometric characteristics.
5.2.1.2 Rear direction-indicator lamps are classified into Categories-2a and -2b devices
according to their photometric characteristics.
5.2.1.3 Side direction-indicator lamps are classified into Categories-5 and -6 devices according
to their photometric characteristics.
5.2.2 Requirements for sequential activation
5.2.2.1 Each light source shall remain lit after activation until the lighting cycle ends. The
sequential activation change process shall end within 200ms after the lighting cycle begins.
5.2.2.2 The sequential activation change shall be gradually lit from the inside to the outside of
the light-transmitting surface at a uniform speed.
5.2.2.3 Continuous light signals shall be provided and the light-transmitting surface shall not
oscillate in the vertical and horizontal directions (at most one direction change is allowed in the
vertical direction).
5.2.2.4 In the direction perpendicular to the reference axis, the interval between two adjacent
or tangential parts of the light-transmitting surface of the direction-indicator lamp that is
activated sequentially shall not exceed 50mm.
5.2.2.5 If there is a gap in the projection of the light-transmitting surface in the direction
perpendicular to the reference axis, it shall be ensured that the overlapping parts of the
projection in the vertical direction change synchronously in the horizontal direction.
5.2.2.6 If there is a gap in different light-transmitting surfaces, the gap shall not be used for
other illuminating and light-signaling functions.
5.2.2.7 The ratio of the lengths of the horizontal and vertical sides of the minimum
circumscribed rectangle (with the long side parallel to the Plane H) of the orthogonal projection
of the apparent surface in the direction of the reference axis on the plane perpendicular to the
reference axis shall not be less than 1.7.
5.3 Light-signaling projection function
5.3.1 The pattern of the light-signaling projection shall consist of simple geometric figures
and/or single letters, which may be defined by the manufacturer and stated in the user manual.
The choice of pattern shall not cause ambiguity.
5.3.2 During the on-time, the pattern of the light-signaling projection shall only change the
length, size ratio, projection direction or position of the pattern.
5.3.3 The location and circuit connection of the light-signaling projection function shall comply
with the provisions of Appendix B.
5.3.4 When the steering projection function and the reverse projection function are turned on
sequentially, the following requirements shall be met.
a) After projection, the sequentially projected symbols shall remain in the projection state
until the lighting rhythm ends;
b) The sequential turning-on timing of the steering projection function shall be consistent
with the direction-indicator lamp, and the changing process of the sequential turning-on
of the reverse projection function shall end within 200ms after the lighting rhythm begins;
