1 Scope
This document specifies the requirements for portable general purpose luminaires.
This document applies to portable general purpose luminaires for indoor and/or outdoor
use (e.g., garden use) with a power supply voltage not exceeding 250V and using
electric light sources as light sources.
This document does not apply to hand luminaires.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this
document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references,
the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in Part 11 apply.
3.1 candlestick luminaires
A portable general purpose luminaire with bulbs connected in series, fixedly mounted
and dispersed on free-standing racks.
NOTE: Candlestick luminaires are available with E5 or E10 lamp bases.
4 General test requirements
The provisions of Part 1, Chapter 0 apply. The tests required in Part 1 shall be performed

10 Terminal blocks
The provisions of Chapters 14 and 15 of Part 1 shall apply.
11 External and internal wirings
The provisions of Chapter 5 of Part 1 shall apply with the following modifications.
11.1 The requirement that "the cord anchor shall be at least partially fixed to the
luminaire or be an integral part of the luminaire" does not apply to table luminaires
made of glass or ceramic for indoor use.
11.2 For indoor Class I and Class II portable general purpose luminaires with a mass
less than 1 kg, a rated current not exceeding 2.5 A, and a flexible cable length not
exceeding 2 m, the nominal cross-sectional area of the copper core conductor of the
flexible cable shall not be less than 0.5 mm2.
11.3 Outdoor portable general purpose luminaires that are not provided with flexible
cables or cords and plugs shall provide wiring terminals, flexible cord fixing frames
and wire inlets for the correct connection of flexible cables or cords.
NOTE: Wiring regulations in various countries may require that Class II portable general purpose
outdoor luminaires be equipped with a non-detachable flexible cable or cord and plug.
Compliance shall be checked by inspection and, where necessary, by the tension and
torque tests required by Part 1, Chapter 5.
11.4 For Class I and Class II portable general purpose luminaires for outdoor use, the
non-detachable flexible cable or cord shall not be lower than the model of 245 IEC 57.
NOTE: In Australia and New Zealand, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulated cables are suitable for
outdoor use.
Compliance shall be checked by inspection.
12 Protection against electric shock
Part 1, Chapter 8 a s well as the following provisions shall apply.
Class I portable general purpose luminaires using bayonet lamp holders shall comply
with one of the following two provisions:
1) When the lamp is assembled in normal use, the test finger shall not touch the lamp
cap of the bulb;

1 Scope

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in Part 11 apply.
3.1 candlestick luminaires
A portable general purpose luminaire with bulbs connected in series, fixedly mounted

4 General test requirements
