Classification and test method of resistance against
impact for curtain wall
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification, testing and
inspection reports of resistance against impact for curtain wall.
This standard applies to the classification and testing of resistance against
impact for curtain wall.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this standard.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 34327 as well as the following apply
to this document. For ease of use, some terms and definitions in GB/T 34327
are repeatedly listed below.
3.1
Resistance against impact
The ability of curtain wall panels, components and their interconnections to
resist the impact of soft or hard objects of the specified mass on the indoor
or outdoor side without causing damage to human safety.
[GB/T 34327-2017, definition 7.7]
3.2
Drop height
5.4.2 Selection of impact points for impact resistance to soft weights
5.4.2.1 General requirements
It may select the location as designated by the client for impact. When the
impact resistance level needs to be assessed, the impact point shall be
determined in accordance with the requirements of 5.4.2.2, 5.4.2.3, 5.4.2.4,
5.4.2.5.
5.4.2.2 Component glass curtain wall and unit glass curtain wall
For the component glass curtain wall and unit glass curtain wall, it shall
determine the impact point according to the following requirements. The height
of the impact point on the indoor side from the indoor completed surface shall
not be more than 1.1 m:
a) The center of the curtain wall’s fixed panel;
b) The center of the open panel;
c) The midpoint of the connection point between the adjacent upper and
lower supports of the column;
d) The midpoint of the beam;
e) The point 100 mm above the connection point between the column and
the beam (beam surface);
f) The point on the beam 100 mm away from the connection point.
5.4.2.3 Point-supported glass curtain wall
The point of impact of the point-supported glass curtain wall shall be the center
of the curtain wall panel; meanwhile the height of the impact point on the indoor
side from the indoor completed surface shall not be more than 1.1 m.
5.4.2.4 All-glass curtain wall
The impact point of the all-glass curtain wall shall be the center of the curtain
wall panel; the height of the impact point on the indoor side from the indoor
completed surface shall not be more than 1.1 m.
5.4.2.5 Stone curtain wall, metal plate curtain wall, artificial plate curtain
wall
The outdoor impact point of stone curtain wall, metal plate curtain wall and
artificial plate curtain wall shall be the center of curtain wall panel.
5.4.3 Selection of impact points for impact resistance test of hard objects
It may select the location as designated by the client to make impact, which
shall include the center point of the curtain wall panel.
5.4.4 Testing steps for impact resistance of soft weights and impact
resistance of hard objects
The testing shall follow the steps below:
a) Suspend an impact object. The geometric center of the soft weight shall
be within the circular range of the curtain wall facade with the impact point
as the center of the circle and a radius of 50 mm. The geometric center of
the hard weight shall be within the circular range of the curtain wall facade
with the impact point as the center of the circle and a radius of 25 mm.
b) Lift the impact object so that its center reaches the specified drop height.
The drop height’s error is ± 20 mm. The horizontal angle between the
hanging wire rope and the horizontal plane of the suspension point should
not be less than 14°. Keep the centerline of the impact object and the
hanging wire rope centerline on the same straight line.
c) Release the impact object. Let it fall freely and hit the impact point once.
d) Tighten the impact object immediately after one impact, to avoid repeated
impacts.
e) Observe and record the condition of the test piece.
5.5 Judgment of results
5.5.1 Impact resistance to soft weights
One of the following situations shall be judged as unqualified:
a) The panel comes off, is broken or cracked;
b) Decorative strips or other attachments have come off.
5.5.2 Impact resistance to hard object
Panel’s failure, break or cracking shall be determined as unqualified.
6 Testing report
6.1 The testing report shall contain the following information:
a) Project name, project location, client name, contractor name;
b) Name and main dimensions of the test piece;
