Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 317-2006 "White granulated sugar". Except for
editorial modification, the main technical differences of this standard in
comparison with GB/T 317-2006 are as follows.
- Added black spot requirements (see 3.2.3);
- Modified food safety requirements (see 3.4, 2006 edition 3.4);
- Added requirements for raw materials (see 3.5);
- Modified test methods of sensory items, physical and chemical items (see
chapter 4, 2006 edition, chapter 4);
- Modified the rules of inspection (see chapter 5, 2006 edition, chapter 5).
This standard is prepared by the redrafting method with reference to the Codex
Stan 212-1999 “Codex standard for sugars” by the International Codex
Alimentarius Commission, and the consistency with Codex Stan 212-1999 is
non-equivalent.
This standard is proposed by China National Light Industry Council.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Sugar
Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/ TC 373).

1 Scope
This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection
rules and marking, packaging, transportation and storage of white granulated
sugar.
This standard is applicable to white granulated sugar produced directly or
indirectly from sugarcane, sugar beet or raw sugar.

3 Technical requirements
3.1 Grade
Take the 1.5kg daily collection sample; seal in food grade plastic bag or frosted
glass bottle; mark the product number, grade and production date, sample base,
test result and inspector. Keep in ventilated and dry environment for factory self-
inspection and quality supervision inspection. When approved by both the
supplier and the buyer, it can be used as an arbitration inspection retained
sample, first spot-check or arbitration inspection result. It is applicable to the
same number of sugar exiting the factory in succession.
5.1.2 On the premise that the product quality is stable, the factory can conduct
spot check on each number of samples according to the actual conditions of
production. The test items include. sucrose, reducing sugar, conductance ash,
dry weight loss, color value, turbidity and insoluble water impurity. Daily
collection samples shall be tested of all items of physical and chemical
requirements. If one or more of the test results do not meet the requirements of
corresponding grade, it shall be treated according to the grade of actual
achievement; and those do not achieve the specification of the second grade
of white granulated sugar shall be treated as unqualified products.
5.1.3 Under any of the following circumstances, the test of all technical
requirements shall be carried out; the results of the test shall be taken as a
comprehensive assessment of the quality of the product.
a) New products or the trial production of type determination when products
transferred factory production;
b) At the beginning of production or resume of production after machine
cleaning;
c) The early, middle and late stages of normal production;
d) In case of unqualified batches occur in settlement inspection;
e) Major change in raw materials or process that may affect the quality of
products;
f) When the quality supervision agency requests inspection.
5.2 Settlement inspection
5.2.1 Each delivery of white granulated sugar shall be a batch of settlement.
Each batch of white sugar shall be accompanied by a factory qualification report,
and the recipient shall receive on the basis of the qualification report. Both
parties of the settlement shall have the right to propose spot inspection or
sample sealing. In the event of any future quality dispute, the sealed samples
which meet the storage conditions shall be used as the arbitration inspection
samples. The inspection result issued by the statutory quality arbitration
organization shall be the arbitration result of that batch of white granulated
