Foreword
All technical content of this Part is mandatory.
This Part identically adopts IEC 60335-2-98:2005 Household and similar
electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2.98: Particular requirements for
humidifiers. This Part shall be used together with GB 4706.1-2005 Household
and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 1: General Requirements.
The section indicated with “applicable” in this Part means that the
corresponding provisions in GB 4706.1-2005 are applicable to this Part. The
section indicated with “replacement” in this Part means that the provisions in
this Part shall prevail. The sections indicated with “addition” in this Part
means that in addition to corresponding provisions in GB 4706.1-2005, it shall
also comply with the added provisions in this Part.
For easy use, this Part made the following editorial modifications to IEC
60335-2-98:
modified “Part 1” to “GB 4706.1-2005”.
This Part is a revision to GB 4706.48-2000 Safety of household and similar
electrical appliances - Particular requirements for humidifiers.
Compared with GB 4706.48-2000, the main modifications in this Part are as
follows:
- added voltage scope in clause 1, added application scope in note 1;
deleted the notes on the use in tropical area in note 2; added liquid
heater in non-application scope in note 3;
- added explanation in 3.1.6;
- added that electrode humidifier shall be marked with rated input power
in 7.1;
- added that the instructions for use shall include cleaning details in 7.12;
- added the measurement of the maximum input power and maximum
input current of the electrode type humidifier from clause 10;
- modified the pole-off distance to the full-pole off that meets the
overvoltage category III condition;
- added 29.2;
- deleted 30.3 of GB 4706.48-2000.
Household and similar electrical appliances –
Safety - Particular requirements for humidifiers
1 Scope
This clause of GB 4706.1-2005 is replaced by the following:
This Part deals with the safety of electric humidifiers for household and similar
use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase
appliances and 480 V for other appliances.
NOTE 1: Examples of appliances that are within the scope are:
- appliances that atomize water;
- appliances that evaporate water by heating;
- appliances that blow air through a moist element.
Appliances that are not intended for normal household use, but that
nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances
intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are
within the scope of this standard.
As far as is practicable, this Part deals with the common hazards presented
by appliances that are encountered by all persons in and around the home.
However, in general, it does not take into account
- the use of appliances by young children or infirm persons without
supervision;
- playing with the appliance by young children.
NOTE 2: Attention is drawn to the fact that:
- for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on the board ships or aircraft,
additional requirements may be necessary;
- in many countries, additional requirements are specified by the national health
authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labor and
similar authorities.
NOTE 3: This Part does not apply to:
- appliances for heating liquids (GB 4706.19);
- humidifiers intended for use with heating, ventilation or air-conditioning
systems (IEC 60335-2-88);
- appliances for medical purposes (GB 9706.1);
- appliances intended exclusively for industrial purposes;
- appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail,
such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapor or
gas).
2 Normative references
This clause of GB 4706.1-2005 is applicable.
3 Definitions
This clause of GB 4706.1-2005 is applicable except as follows.
3.1.6 Addition:
NOTE: For electrode-type appliances, if no current is assigned to the appliance, the
rated current is calculated from the rated voltage and the mean value of the power
input during the first 2 min of operation, the appliance being supplied at rated voltage
and operated under normal operation.
3.1.9 Replacement:
normal operation
operation of the appliance under the following conditions:
The appliance is filled with the maximum quantity of water in accordance with
the instructions, unless the appliance is connected to the water mains and the
supply is automatically controlled.
For electrode-type appliances, the water has a resistivity of approximately
500 Ω•cm at a temperature of 20°C.
NOTE: The appropriate resistivity may be obtained by adding sodium chloride to the
water.
