Foreword
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaces GB/T 9103-1988 “Industrial stearic acids”. Compared
with GB/T 9103-1988, main changes in this Standard are as follows:
-- modified the product classification, stearic acid was modified from original
type 200, type 400, type 800 to type 1840, type 1850, type 1865 and
rubber level (see Clause 3 of this Edition, Clause 2 of Edition 1988);
-- modified technical indicators of saponification value, acid value, iodine
value, titer, moisture, color (see 4.2 of this Edition, 3.2 of Edition 1988);
-- added octadecanoic acid content indicator (see 4.2 of this Edition);
-- deleted inorganic acid indicator (3.2 of Edition 1988);
-- modified inspection rules (see Clause 6 of this Edition, Clause 5 of Edition
1988);
-- modified marks, packaging, transport, storage (see Clause 7 of this Edition,
Clause 6 of Edition 1988).
This Standard was proposed by China Light Industry Federation.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee
on Surfactants and Detergents of Standardization Administration of China
(SAC/TC 272).

Industrial stearic acids
1 Scope
This Standard specifies product classification, technical requirements, test
methods, inspection rules and marks, packaging, transport, storage and shelf
life of industrial stearic acids.
This Standard is applicable to industrial stearic acids that are obtained by
processing and refining animal and vegetable oils after hydrolysis (the main
components are octadecanoic acid and palmitic acid). Industrial stearic acids
are widely used in rubber, plastics, textile printing and dyeing, household
chemicals and precision casting industries.

3 Product classification
Industrial stearic acids, according to the content of octadecanoic acid in the
product, are classified into: type 1840, type 1850, type 1865 and rubber level.
4 Requirements
4.1 Appearance
The product, according to the forming method, appears block, flake, powder or
granular.
4.2 Physical and chemical indicators
The physical and chemical indicators of industrial stearic acids shall comply
In accordance with the provisions of Clause 7 in GB/T 9104-2008.
5.6 Titer
In accordance with the provisions of Clause 8 in GB/T 9104-2008.
5.7 Moisture
In accordance with the provisions of Clause 9 in GB/T 9104-2008.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Exit-factory inspection
The exit-factory inspection items are appearance, C18 content, saponification
value, acid value, iodine value, color, titer, moisture specified in Clause 4.
6.2 Product batching and sampling rules
6.2.1 Batching
The products are delivered in batches and accepted by sampling. The products
of the same specification, of same batch number delivered at one time are one
delivery batch.
The products delivered by manufacturer shall be first inspected as accepted by
manufacturer’s quality inspection depart according to the provisions of this
Standard. Then issue product quality inspection certificates before they are
exited from factory. The product quality inspection certificate shall include
manufacturer’s name, product name, trademark, reference standard used, type,
level, batch number, batch size, quality indicator, production date.
The receiver shall accept the products according to the product’s quality
inspection certificate. When necessary, perform sampling, acceptance or
arbitration within one month according to the provisions of 6.2.2.
6.2.2 Sampling
According to the batch size, determine the sample size according to Table 2.
Randomly extract unit sample from batches.
