3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 12604.4, GB/T 20306, GB/T 20737 and GB/T
34370.1, and the following are applicable to this document.
3.1 acoustic emission source
The physical source point or location where transient elastic waves are generated by the rapid
release of energy in a material.
3.2 acoustic emission location source
The location of the acoustic emission source on the object under test determined by analyzing
the acoustic emission data.
NOTE: several common source location methods include regional location, computational location
and continuous signal location.
3.3 activity
The degree, to which, the number of acoustic emission source events changes with the loading
process or the time.
3.4 intensity
The average elastic energy released by the acoustic emission source events.
3.5 active defect
Defect that causes transient elastic wave release due to load.
4 Method Summary
4.1 Acoustic emission testing is to determine the location of acoustic emission source and rate
it by arranging acoustic emission sensors on the surface of its components, receiving the sound
waves generated by active defects in the components and converting them into electrical signals
during the loading process of the amusement equipment, and performing signal collection,
processing, display, recording and analysis through the testing system.
4.2 In accordance with the comprehensive grading results of the detected acoustic emission
sources, determine whether to use other non-destructive testing methods for re-inspection.
5 Safety Requirements
This Chapter does not list all safety requirements when conducting the testing. Users of this
Part shall establish safety guidelines before testing. Safety requirements during the testing
process include at least:
a) Testing personnel shall abide by the on-site safety requirements of the component
under test, and in accordance with the requirements of the testing location, wear
protective work clothes and relevant protective equipment;
b) Care shall be taken to avoid various safety hazards, such as: bruises, electric shock,
falling, squeezing, shearing, entanglement, slipping and drowning, etc.;
c) It shall be noted that during acoustic emission testing, the coupling agent may cause
poor insulation and electrical short circuit;
d) When testing amusement equipment after operation, attention shall be paid to the
temperature status of the object under test, so as to avoid burns.
6 Personnel Requirements
Personnel engaged in acoustic emission testing of the amusement equipment shall comply with
the relevant provisions of GB/T 34370.1.
7 Testing System
7.1 The acoustic emission testing system shall include sensors, pre-amplifiers, system hosts,
testing and analysis software, etc., and shall comply with the provisions of Appendix A.
7.2 The acoustic emission sensors, pre-amplifiers and system hosts shall be calibrated at least
once a year. The calibration of the acoustic emission sensors shall be carried out in accordance
with the provisions of GB/T 19800 or GB/T 19801. The calibration of other components shall
be carried out in accordance with the method specified by the instrument manufacturer.
8 Testing Process Procedures
8.1 General Testing Process Procedures
The organizations engaged in acoustic emission testing of amusement equipment shall develop
general testing process procedures in accordance with the requirements of GB/T 34370.1 and
this Part, which shall at least include the following elements:
a) Serial No. of the document;
components with a maximum side length greater than 400 mm, plane location should
be adopted. For profile steel components, such as: I-beams, channel steels and angle
steels, etc., line location should be adopted.
b) In a sensor array, if there are bolt connections, pin connections and riveting, etc. in
metal components that may cause serious attenuation of sound energy, sensor arrays
shall be respectively set up on both sides of the connection.
Appendix B provides a schematic diagram of the arrangement of acoustic emission sensors for
some structural components.
9.1.5 Determination of loading scheme
In accordance with the purpose of acoustic emission testing and the actual conditions of the
testing site, determine the loading scheme. The loading includes three modes: equipment
operating status loading, independent static loading of the component under test, and natural
wind loading. Each loading mode shall comply with the following requirements:
a) The loading of equipment operating status shall be carr...
