Plugs and Socket-outlets for Household and Similar
Purposes - Part 2-5.Particular Requirements for Adaptors
1 Scope
Chapter 1 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is replaced by.
This document stipulates the technical requirements for the ratings, markings, protection
against electric shock, construction, electrical properties and mechanical properties, etc. of
adaptors.
This document is applicable to adaptors for indoor or outdoor use, household and similar
purposes, only for alternating current, and with a rated voltage above 50 V but not more than
440 V, a rated current not exceeding 32 A, with or without a grounding contact.
This document also applies to travel adaptors (see Appendix AA). For travel adaptors, the scope
is limited to adaptors with a rated voltage above 50 V but not more than 250 V, and a rated
current not exceeding 20 A.
Travel adaptors that simultaneously connect two or more plugs are beyond the scope of this
document.
This document includes the requirements for adaptors with additional functionality, but it does
not include requirements for the additional functionality itself.
NOTE 1.additional functionality includes electronic power supply, dimmer, timer, protection
device and infrared switch, etc.
This document does not apply to adaptors equipped with appliance couplers that comply with
the provisions of GB/T 17465 (all parts).
Adaptors that comply with the requirements of this document are suitable for normal use where
the ambient temperature usually does not exceed +40 C, but the average ambient temperature
within a 24 h period does not exceed +35 C, and the lower limit of the ambient air temperature
is 5 C.
NOTE 2.tests at temperatures below the normal range are being considered.
2 Normative References
The contents of the following documents constitute indispensable clauses of this document
through the normative references in the text. In terms of references with a specified date, only
versions with a specified date are applicable to this document. In terms of references without a
specified date, the latest version (including all the modifications) is applicable to this document.
3.106 travel adaptor
A mobile electrical accessory intended for temporary use, allowing one or multiple types of
plugs from different national systems to be connected to socket-outlets not designed for plug-
in of these plugs.
NOTE 1.travel adaptor does not have to be an integral unit, it may integrate additional functionality.
NOTE 2.examples of the national systems are listed in IEC TR 60083.
3.107 travel adaptor with movable pins
A travel adaptor with a plug pin that can slide in and out, swivel or fold in any direction, i.e.,
the pin is not permanently fixed, but there are measures of locking it in its normal use position.
3.108 intermediate adaptor
An adaptor that allows one or multiple plugs to be connected to a socket-outlet through control
devices, such as. dimmer switches and photoelectric switches, etc. The control devices are
connected to the adaptors through an external flexible cable.
3.109 rewireable intermediate adaptor
An intermediate adaptor with a replaceable external flexible cable construction.
3.110 non-rewireable intermediate adaptor
An intermediate adaptor that is connected with the external flexible cable and assembled into
an integral unit by the manufacturer.
NOTE. see 14.1.
3.111 adaptor with cable outlet
A rewireable or non-rewireable adaptor with a construction for connecting the external flexible
cable through a flexible cable outlet.
3.112 rated power
The power value specified by the manufacturer for an electrical accessory.
4 General Requirements
Chapter 4 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is applicable.
The travel adaptors are not allowed to charge electric vehicles and electric bicycles.
5 General Description Regarding Tests
Chapter 5 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after adding the following content.
For the purpose of this test, unless otherwise specified, the term “adaptor” includes fused
adaptor, polarized adaptor, single-way adaptor, multi-way adaptor, intermediate adaptor and
adaptor with cable outlet. It is also referred to as travel adaptor in Appendix AA.
6 Ratings
Chapter 6 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after adding the following content.
6.101 The rated voltage of the adaptors shall not be lower than the nominal voltage of the supply
system, to which, it can be connected through a socket-outlet.
NOTE. the nominal voltage is defined in GB/T 156.
6.102 The rated current of the adaptors shall take the minimum value of the following currents.
---the rated current of the plug part; or
---the arithmetic sum of the maximum rated currents of all plugs that can be simultaneously
plugged into the adaptor; or
---the rated current of a built-in overcurrent protection device (if any).
6.103 When given, the rated power of the adaptors shall be calculated by multiplying the rated
current (specified in 6.102) by the rated voltage (specified in 6.101) at a power factor of 1.
Whether it satisfies the requirements of 6.101 ~ 6.103 can be checked by observing the signs.
7 Classification
Chapter 7 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 is applicable.
8 Markings
Chapter 8 of GB/T 2099.1-2021 shall be applicable after the following modifications.
8.1 The content of the first dash is modified into.
---rated current (A) or rated power (W), or both;
Add the following content at the end of the sub-clause.
plug of the same system with the live bushing of the adaptor, or the pin of the adaptors with the
live bushing of a socket-outlet of the same system.
10.4 Paragraph 1 is modified into the following content.
The external components of the plug shall be made of insulating materials; but with exceptions
of assembly scre...
