Test method for skewness and bow in woven and knitted
fabrics
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the test method for skewness and bow in woven and knitted
fabrics.
This Standard applies to woven and knitted fabrics and their products.
2 Normative references
The provisions in the following documents become provisions of this Standard through
reference in this Standard. For dated references, all subsequent amendments (not
including errata content) or revisions do not apply to this standard. However, parties to
agreements that are based on this Standard are encouraged to study whether the latest
versions of these documents can be used. For undated references, the latest edition
applies to this Standard.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this Standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
skewness
A skewed state caused by the weft or knitting course deviating from the straight line
perpendicular to the warp or wale of the fabric.
3.2
bow
A skewed state of one or more arc(s) formed in the width direction of the fabric caused
by the weft or knitting course deviating from the straight line perpendicular to the warp
or wale of the fabric.
4 Principle
4.1 Skewness
Trace the mark of the weft or knitting course on the sample, place a ruler perpendicular
to the warp or wale along the intersection point with one side of the cloth edge, measure
the maximum vertical distance between the ruler and the weft or knitting course, and
express the skewness rate by a percentage of the ratio of the vertical distance to the
fabric width.
4.2 Bow
Trace the mark of the weft or knitting course on the sample, place a ruler perpendicular
to the warp or wale along its lowest point, measure the vertical distance between the
lowest point and the highest point on the weft or knitting course, and express the bow
rate by a percentage of the ratio of the vertical distance to the fabric width.
5 Tools
5.1 Steel ruler, length greater than the width of the fabric, minimum scale 1 mm.
5.2 Set square, one of the angles being a right angle, length capable of meeting the
measurement needs, minimum scale 1 mm.
5.3 Soft pencils or colored pens suitable for marking.
6 Standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing
The standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing shall be in accordance with the
standards specified in GB/T 6529.
7 Sampling
Take pieces of fabric bolts (rolls) or products as the unit of laboratory samples.
8 Test steps
8.1 Conditioning
Sample shall be subjected to conditioning according to the regulations of GB/T 6529.
8.2 Placing samples
Spread the samples flat on a flat, smooth horizontal platform without any tension.
